Typical

December 4, 2008

My new modem arrived today WAHOO! and it doesn’t work, had to phone up to get it activated and what a surprise, there is a problem.

After talking to some chap in outer Mongolia, my problem has been refered to some one else which can take 3 to 5 days! bugger that thinks I, I’ll just plug in the old one (not gonna be out of the interweb for 5 days) Aaarrgh! expletive, expletive, that’s not working either, spent ages unpluging and rebooting to no avail, time to phone Mongolia again.

And so, I phone them up and  get through the automatic response thingy, press all the right button’s and finally I get Ghengis on the line, I start to explain that my new modem has arrived and that there was a problem, at this point he interupts to ask me if I want to activate the modem, no says I, I’ve already tried that and there was a problem, at which point he interupts again, to tell me that it has been refered to some other department, so I start again and this time I keep going till I get to the question of why my old modem isn’t working, so we go through all the setup stuff until finally after a long and bloody battle, victory, I’m back online and ranting to the world.

Except my new modem is still not working and I’ll have to wait to find out why. All that hassle just to get back where I was 2 hours ago…..typical.

It’s been a while..

November 27, 2008

It has been a while, when I set up this blog thing I wasn’t sure what I would do with it and so I haven’t really done anything at all with it.

So here I am sitting here not knowing what to write, I get the feeling this might just be a random babbling on about nothing just to fill space, that is of course if my interweb connection stays with me, when I got up yesterday and tried to check my emails before going to work, I found that I had no connection so I left it and went to work, when I got home last night, still no connection, too late to phone the people who supply my service bugger! ok I’ll wait til the morning and check it then.

Got up this morning turn on the old trusty? machine and dammit no interweb, so I phone up the nice peole to see what’s happening automated voice thingy asking me if I want this service press this number or if I want this service press this other number, so on and so forth till I get to the music which means I will get to speak to somebody but not until I’ve been driven mad by the god awful music which is being pumped into my brain. Eventually I hear a frienndly voice asking “can I help you ?” no, I just wanted to listen to some crap music for 10 minutes, I didn’t say that of course, but the temptation was there.

After talking to the guy for 5 mins, I find out that my modem is out dated and it can’t handle my connection so they will send me a brand spanking new one which is “future proof” what ever that’s supposed to mean, can anything be truly  “future proof” no one knows what the future has in store for us, unless they’re David Icke he seems to know , we all gonna be eaten by lizard people or something like that.

I’m off now just in case my connection goes on me again so seeya.

I was walking through Bedford town Center, when I heard this fellow playing Flowers of the Forest, which reminded me of Mike Oldfield’s Voyager album, which in turn reminded me that he had a new album out so I had to go and but it….. I always wondered how he managed to sell millions of albums without being in your face like pop singers are, maybe I should have asked the Bagpiper if he was in the employ of Mike Oldfield!

Roots

March 20, 2008

Went to the dentist yesterday to get a root extracted, I have to admit I was imagining all sorts of horrors before hand but it was over very quickly, two injections to numb it and out it came, then they sent me packing looking and sounding like Sylvester Stallone for the next 3 hours!

I did get the rest of the day off work.

St patrick’s day blues

March 17, 2008

I have just been reminded that it is St Patrick’s Day and being that I work in a pub this is possibly the single worst day for me, I hate it when all the fake Irish descend upon my bar wanting to drink Guinness, when for the rest of the year they drink shandy’s or something equally as pointless, now let me qualify this by stating I have nothing against the Irish or indeed St Patrick, I just think that most people are moronic sheep who do what they do because the media tells them that this the thing to do.
It’s the same with most thing’s which are perceived as “fashionable” or “trendy” the only reason these thing’s get that status is because they are in your face 24/7, on the TV or in the Press, my favourite thing to hate is the Ipod, just look at the way it is advertised, they never tell you in the ads what the sound quality is like (which is rubbish) it’s advertised as a fashion accessory with funky white Silhouette dancing to the latest pop tune even the headphones are for fashion not function.
I’m very sorry not sure what happened there got a bit too serious, didn’t mean to rant like that, although after reading the Grumpy old man secret diary, I have realised that even tho technically I’m too young I am indeed a grumpy old man.

There is so much about the modern world which makes me angry I sometimes think my head will explode.

My new toy

I was so excited to get it I didn’t think about having to set it up, which of course if you know anything about how these things go didn’t exactly go to plan.
Firstly I had to format the hard drive(which was bought separately)then install it in the media player then get Windows to find it, simple.
So 2 days later when I finally got the damn thing to work with Windows,
I thought I was sorted but oh no plugged it into the tv and got a message saying no media detected, many expletives later after taking it apart(I also played with the jumper switches) I realised what had happened in the process of attaching the IDE cable to the hard drive I had pulled it loose from the bit that fits to the media player!
Have I mentioned I am an Idiot, one day I’ll learn, one day.

Having got it to work now I love it, even treated it to some nice shiny new Creative I-Trigue 3330 speakers, would have got some Logitech ones to match the other ones I’ve got but, fell in love with the shape of them, they sound rather good too.
